Just before World War 2 the comic book world exploded with creativity. Superman took to the skies, Batman to the streets, and a million imitators filled in the gap between. Among the heroes so inspired were Stardust the Super-Wizard, Fantomah and Space Smith.

Birthed from the diseased mind of Fletcher Hanks their stories were filled with wooden dialog, bad anatomy and composition and a manic energy unlike anything seen in comics before or since.

As comics coalesced into a codified industry these oddball characters faded to obscurity and were more or less forgotten until the original comics lapsed into the public domain and the most insane Stardust stories showed up on the internet. Soon a cartoonist named Paul Karasik put together the best Fletcher Hanks stories he could find, and thus Fantagraphics published I Shall Destroy All The Civilized Planets!. As it turned out, the sheer insanity that the stories contained rendered it a hit and a second collection, You You Shall Die By Your Own Evil Creation ! republished every other story Fletcher Hanks worked on.

Read a selection of classic Stardust stories online, including the first two stories not created by Fletcher Hanks himself.

Attack of the Super-Wizards #1 But there's life in these old characters yet. Wonderful, deranged, and powerful stories cry out, begging to be told about Stardust the Super-Wizard, Fantomah, the Mystery Woman of the Jungle, Space Smith, Buzz Crandall, Whirlwind Carter, Tabu the Jungle Wizard and Big Red McLane, the Super-Lumberjack. And the first of these stories is Attack of the Super-Wizards.

They are the most powerful beings in the universe. In the distance wastes of vast space these beings keep the peace in the regions of space beyond the known civilized planets. They are the Super-Wizards: Merlin, S'nn Gorr, Chaos Crawler, Chyl Rots and of course, Stardust.

A remarkable problem is brewing at the core of the civilized planets: you. Mankind's unchecked technological growth has pulled us up from obscurity to massive power on the galactic scale. Our madmen command vast fleets of inter-planetary star vultures, burn entire worlds to cinders, and all too often our Inter-Planetary Secret Service gets there too late to prevent the damage. Earth has grown too dangerous. The only choice, says Merlin, is to destroy our home before its too late...

Space Wizards

Team Up

Stardust doesn't agree. And he won't just sit by while his cosmic brothers obliterate the home world of his wife and best friends. So he enlists Earth's greatest heroes: Big Red McLane, Fantomah, Space Smith, Buzz Crandall and all the rest on a desperate mission to stop the other Super Wizards and save the Earth...

But that's only a small part of his plan. While Fantomah and Big Red McLane battle for their world Stardust is peering across the veil of time, and building an army of Stardusts from the Many-Worlds.

In this first issue Stardust peers into the Golden Age and watches a version of himself battle his great enemy Max Mustache and witnesses a version of his first team up with Fantomah and McLane. Also in this issue, Rosemary Redgrave and the Terror Gangsters, a collection of Stardog newspaper strips and a curious knockoff of Stardust called Nebula, the Hyper-Engineer...
